I thought Dream Park was the first book of three…

Edit: Oh, I am awake now – another book – never mind.

More Edit: Actually, other – none of the above needs another book/sequel/prequel let's see what someone else talented can do.

Hornblower. That's about it. Everything else, I either did not know or felt they did not need another. OBTW, Hornblower does not need another. It could have another and that would still work.

If it had said "one more from Tolkien" I would have gone for it.

I'm rather dreading the Tolkien Estate licensing sequels – I'm not expecting much from them frown

Based on the experience of others in the list – 90% of Conan, Sherlock Holmes, C'thulhu pastiches are pretty poor (IMHO…only IMHO). I doubt anyone will be willing to put the work into making a Tolkien sequel in the true style of the original. I suspect it'll be a lot more like The Sword of Shannara….

…I know it's a popular series but…it ain't Tolkien (no matter how much we desperately wanted it to be at the time….)

fifty shades of gray was bk 1 of a trilogy. no sequel is needed.

Yeah, how any more books do we need about Richmond depot shell jackets?

What? Oh, never mind….

I agree with "Mute" most of the choices either have sequels already ( Flashman ) or the authors are dead ( Renault 1983, Heinlein 1988,)

There are some missing books from antiquity that it would be nice to find somewhere … and occasional lost MSS are found from classic authors (which can be cool) but wishing for books that don't actually exist? Hmmm: that would be wasting good reading time (and just like figures and games, there are already more good books in the world than I will likely ever read) wink

My vote was for books which I wish the author had written more of. I've rarely enjoyed anything handed to a follow up author. So I might want a sequel, but I'll never get a real sequel this side of the veil.

Having said that, The Lord of the Rings needs to be left alone, on either side!.

But, going with "wish the author had done more," I'll go with H Beam Piper and Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen and Space Viking as being worlds I'd like to have explored more of.

I think, if the author is dead, as most of those listed are, their work should be left alone.

There are, actually, many sequels for many of the books or authors listed. Most merely become faded copies of the original.

Some succeed. JK Rowling, in the greater context of her HP saga, was largely successful. Some trilogies, such as Scott Westerfeld's work, do well because the story arc was planned for three books.

Personally, I'm completely crazy for another "Fifty Shades of Gray" sequel. I just can't get enough of Anastasia Steele repeating, "Oh God!" over and over. Yep. Needs another sequel.

Personally, I'd like a "Space Viking" sequel – just to see how exactly Rod's plans to unify the Viking Worlds went and how the seeds of it's destruction were sown to collapse into the First Imperium occurred.

Jerry Pournelle is allowed to of course from piper's own lips, but he's pretty busy these days.

IIRC, Hornblower's career was pretty well covered, down to the aged Admiral Lord Hornblower helping the future Napoleon III make it back to France to become President of the 2nd Republic.

Starship Troopers functionally has a sequel (or at least parallel story) in "Armor" by John Steakley.

I'd love some more original REH Conan tales, but that ain't gonna happen.

Would also enjoy a Game of Thrones sequel that wasn't terrible, but like the above, ain't gonnna happen. ;)
