Use it? I don't even know how to pronounce it!

It's pronounced 'gesso'.

I've started making terrain tiles using 2x2 foot squares of styrofoam. Since most spray paints melt the foam, I prime it with gesso. I tried it on miniatures but wasn't impressed and went back to spray primer.

Sometimes I use it with small pieces or when the weather just say NO.

I think it is this stuff.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gesso

Gesso (Italian pronunciation: [ˈdʒɛsso]; "chalk", from the Latin: gypsum, from Greek: ãýøïò) is a white paint mixture consisting of a binder mixed with chalk, gypsum, pigment, or any combination of these.[1] It is used in artwork as a preparation for any number of substrates such as wood panels, canvas and sculpture as a base for paint and other materials that are applied over it.

Yes but is it pronounced with 'g' as in gate, or 'g' said like a 'j'?

I always default to a hard g….

Most artist I know pronounce it with a soft G.

It is also available in a wide range of colours fro art supply stores, not just black, white and grey.

I have bought some for a project, but I haven't used it yet.

I use it almost exclusively as my go to primer. Priming conditions are usually poor so I like that I can use the gesso anytime indoors without any ill effect.

I've used it to touch up where I have missed with a spray primer

It seems to work better than Vallejo primer from a brush.

I've bought some but haven't tried it yet ….

pronounced with a soft g and and worth having in your paint box. It takes paint very well and adheres to metal very well.

I guess so.

farnox03 Apr 2017 7:55 a.m. PST

I have been using it for years, no problems.
