How did this make the polls and some of mine didn't?

Just kidding, to each his own. But I voted no opinion.

How recent are your poll suggestions ?

This one was proposed on 28 Nov 2011.

A lot of P&P's films had a military theme – the court scene in heaven in a Matter of life and death is in many ways a salute to the allied forces, and a big slap on the back to Bomber Command (who lost 55,000 aircrew) in particular.

It's also a superb film.

Anything starring Anthony Quayle is going to be worth watching, and HMNZS Achilles starring as herself is my all-time favorite movie credit, so it's Battle of the River Plate for me.

I also have to say I've never heard of any of these.

I am moderately shocked.

At least four of those films are widely regarded as all time classics.

nazrat25 Sep 2014 7:19 a.m. PST

Ah, A Matter of Life and Death was called Stairway to Heaven in the US. I have long regarded it as a classic and have voted accordingly.

Chalfant25 Sep 2014 9:53 a.m. PST

I voted for Black Narcissus… its a visually compelling film, and the story, though perhaps a bit old fashioned in some ways by today's standards, is interesting enough. Nuns forced to examine who they really are, and who they are not.

Ah, Sister Ruth…..

Yes June I'm bailing out. I'm bailing out, but there's a catch – I've got no parachute.

I think its difficult for (most of) us to realize just how dramatic color movies were when first introduced.

This poll list might be construed as a "movies you need to see if you have not already" list too.

I know where I'm going

Huscarle28 Sep 2014 10:43 a.m. PST

Good grief, I can't believe that some folks have never even heard of these great films. The Archers made so many fine films, but I had to vote for the superb "The Life & Death of Colonel Blimp".

@Cardinal Hawkwood – I love that film. Would be my 4th choice (probably!)

Another vote for '49th Parallel'!

thumbs up

TunnelRat29 Sep 2014 5:10 a.m. PST

Voted for the only one I had heard of – The Batte of the River Plate

genew4929 Sep 2014 7:11 p.m. PST

Hey Saginaw, with your vote we moved into sole possession of 7th place!

For some polls there ought to be an option of "I do have an opinion, but I cannot pick just one."
