I've never played one either. It seems a bit weak as a game concept, as you've got two guys moving right at each other, so no maneuvering, no range, no evading so what's the tactical element? How the lance is aimed?
Not saying it can't be good, I've just never figured out how to do it and have it be a challenge other than hoping for a good die result.

I have played my own game … with 54mm friction motor toy knights and spaghetti lances (so on a good contact, they do shatter) … The jousting game in the Society of Ancients publication Field of Glory and the Peter Bradford game Crossed Lances.
My own version was certainly the dumbest, but conceivably was also the more entertaining (and jousting was an entertainment).
I think the joust is about courage, horsemanship and concentration (moderated by a good chunk of luck). Wargames are good at 'luck' Not always quite so good at the other skills. So make the game short, reward risk taking, and keep plenty of chance in the game.

Phil, that is brilliant!
Now that's a jousting game I could get into.
