Recently I was reading a biography of Theodore Roosevelt and in 1910 former Prime Minister Arthur Balfour, concerned that there weren't enough Englishmen around to keep control of the Empire, was on the verge of proposing a grand Anglo-American Alliance--with Roosevelt as king/president/emperor! The sudden death of Edward VII derailed his plan, but it's fascinating to think about!

I thought that England should have been included as a member of NAFTA.

Wonderful idea. I'm sure the 1.26 billion Commonwealth citizens living in India alone would love shared mobility/employment with the USA.Would the other 900 million Africans and Asians in Commonwealth countries feel the same ? Probably :-)

We've been good friends for a while. Let's not screw this up with marriage.

I thought we decided this in 1776 ( or 1812 kinda)

Speaking as an American, I'd like to go even further and have my own state (actually its a commonwealth), exit the USA and re-join the UK, Deleted by Moderator

There is the question of the historical role of the monarch as well

Maybe the Commonwealth should apply for US territory/statehood. It would seem that the role of which is the greater world power have changed since 1910.

I would gladly have a 90 year old monarch as compared to what we have now.
