I'm so glad Piper's Space Viking made the list. But very disappointed that Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen did not!

We both went to school in the area where Lord Kalvan was set, Scott. grin

Is this the "largest" TMP poll ever?

Lots of good choices!

Persistent problem with Dickson, Drake & Pournelle. The best of them are short stories or shortish novels included in later volumes, and the titles used in the polls are often not the volumes I have. I want to vote for "Soldier, Ask Not" (Dickson) "The Butcher's Bill" (Drake) and "Mercenary" (Pournelle) but those aren't my options, so I'm guessing.
You might get very different results voting for series instead of individual volumes. Might even be worth another poll.
Down Styphon!

Another poll? This epic journey (to crown Starship Troopers) wasn't enough for yah?

JimSelzer22 Jul 2016 10:43 a.m. PST

anything But Starship Troopers over hyped if ever there was so much of his other stuff was better

Inkpaduta22 Jul 2016 10:51 a.m. PST

I believe that someone disagreed with me when I said that Starship Troopers would be the winner, no contest. Unless something really changes here…I believe I was right.

Forever War is one of my three favourite books of all time, but there was never any question it'd be SST on here.

I look forward to seeing this poll again in a few years. Maybe some of MY books will be listed here! :)

It's all a government plot

Starship Troopers is doing well 19% – as it is probably the novel that non Sci Fi players know

Has anyone voting for Starship Troopers actually read the book? Its not that good.

I think people vote for it based on movies and the Avalon Hill game!

Well, I've read it. Heck I did a book report on it when I was in third grade :)

I agree it is not as good as it is sometimes made out to be and that the 'service to get citizenship' theme isn't practical in the real world. But it's still a good read and in many ways defines the genre.

I'll go on record as saying Heinlein was a fascist if he meant everything he wrote in Starship Troopers, but he wrote his fascism well.

I'll go on record as saying Heinlein was a fascist if he meant everything he wrote in Starship Troopers…

Just because he wrote it doesn't mean he believed it – it's fiction.
