This could very well drive the next big war. China needs cheep oil to keep lining its powerful peoples pockets with money. That area (The whole south china sea)is its only source of it that they can remotely "if wrongly" (my out look) lay clam to. They will keep pushing to get it till someone pushes back. Then its war and pile on . |

Don't know enough to form an opinion about the subject. So, No Opinion for me! |

I don't think it will take until 2135. |

I'm with darthfozzywig on this. More countries than China and Vietnam have a dog in that fight; Taiwan, Malaysia and the Philippines all have territorial claims, and Brunei (tiny but with lots of money) claims fishing rights to a rich commercial fishing area. In addition, the Chinese have occupied the Paracel Islands since 1974 and the addition of the Spratlys would give them bases on both sides of the busiest shipping lane in the South China Sea through which sail, among other things, the bulk of Japan's petroleum imports. I think the Japanese would react negatively. I think 2015-2025 is a much more likely timeframe for the feces to strike the air circulation mechanism. LT |

I am sure the US will try desperately to find some reason this would be in our national interest. I would prefer to just sit back and cheer for Vietnam. They seem capable of handling themselves. I wonder which side Taiwan would come in on if China and Vietnam came to blows? "Is this a private fight, or can anybody join?" |

Are they really taping the fists up for a bare knuckle fight over a couple of islands? Can Vietnam even stand against the might of China? |
Ron W DuBray | 24 Sep 2014 2:36 p.m. PST |
not so much the islands but the rights to the oil around them. |

<<Can Vietnam even stand against the might of China?>> They stood up once before and gave the Chinese a bloody nose, can't count them out. China is busy dredging and increasing the size and land mass of some of the islands. |

Lots and lots of other fires that may erupt before the Spratleys Plus – I would not assume that Vietnam would not give China a bloody nose! |

By 2135 we would see wars over water long before seeing anything about these islands. |
