The Man Who Would Be King is the greatest movie ever made. So that choice was easy.

And I wish the studio would release a restored and deluxe edition yesterday! Have you noticed how the DVD is missing a few insert shots found only on the VHS print, which itself was missing some insert voiceovers? The DVD begs for full restoration (any outtakes or deleted scenes in the vaults?), a comprehensive "making of" documentary, and at least one commentary track -- pay Michael Caine and Sean Connery whatever they ask for for this, and add a second track from a suitable film historian who "gets" it!

Add an expanded and remastered soundtrack CD and the world would be grateful. The Wind and the Lion and Conan the Barbarian DVDs and soundtrack reissues should serve as models for these projects.

"Sand Pebbles" was written by a man who also wrote some of the greatest works in anthropological Science Fiction ever – in fact, 60% or so of his output was SF that explored what it was that defined human cultures. And the book is full of amazing character studies, only just captured by the film.
