I soak briefly in hot water laced with de-greasing agent (i.e. dishwasher rinse fluid).

I've found that this does the job simply and quickly. Not only does it get off any grease from handling but also gets the fine dust from filing bases etc. off as well.

As I work with 10mm & smaller figures a batch takes no more than a few minutes to do so time taken per figure is minimal and better to be safe than sorry.

Yes. Everything gets soap and very warm water. Resin and the Shapeways stuff get washed and rinsed twice.

I haven't washed metal figures for 40 years. Never a problem.
Nor do I wash hard plastic, since it does not use mold release.

Resin, on the other hand…

I know nothing of resin but I do wash soft plastic minis.

With warm water and dish washing detergent, always for all mediums, and for many years now.

Whatever anybody says about it, it never hurts, and is the simplest of many steps in the process of completing a miniature.

I'm way to impation for that, I can bearly wait for the spray primer to dry or glue to dry if I have to glue them!!

I'm not fanatical about it but I do usually wash plastics and always, after some paint-sliding-off episodes, stuff from Shapeways. Mind you, Shapeways is the only 3-d printing company I order from, so any others might not have the same problems.

I use warm water with a squirt of Dawn detergent, the best stuff in the world for removing oil from pelicans and apparently from plastic as well. I am sure that there are equivalents for other countries.

Used to but it kind of slipped off the old agenda

However, like Winston said, resin is very different from hard plastic and metal – really need a wash with a touch of soap

I always try to. Most figures get a run in the Ultrasonic cleaner.

I'm surprised by the number of votes for washing metal figures with soap. I worked in the metal fabrication industry for a number of years and when we were cleaning up castings or pieces stamped on a punch press, we always used an alcohol based degreaser before sending the parts out for nickel plating.

Since the metallurgy experts recommend alcohol based cleaners, I use rubbing alcohol to clean my metal figures. One bonus, alcohol dries faster than water.

Have bee using detergent and water – lots of second hand minis off ebay and elsewhere.

With some of the older pieces afflicted with lead rot, have been planning to go to an alcohol rinse for at least those.
