To the Strongest, though never having played WAB technically I didn't replace it.

Based on sales and observation of games at conventions, ADLG (L'Art de la Guerre).

GGouveia29 May 2017 2:10 p.m. PST

Hail Caesar.

ADLG (L'Art de la Guerre)? Never heard of it. Only 10 ratings on boardgamegeek????? I'd say for something from 2008 it has not had much of an impact on the hobby overall.

Found it on-line, thanks for the info on it. Deosn't look too bad. I'd say it looks more complex then WAB in a more realistic way based on the play aides etc.. Looks popular in France and parts of the UK.

Looks like a good find.

First replaced by Clash of Empires.
Now mostly play To the Strongest!
Which should have a place in your poll!

Sorry, but nobody nominated it during the pre-poll discussion.

In my area WAB was played to death; then people simply stopped playing ancients. A number of us sold off our armies.

WAB is still played, and there are a number of us who still like it quite a bit.

I still prefer WAB 1.5 over the final release WAB 2.0, and there is a rather large community that seems to gravitate around that version.

Regardless, I still like it for smaller battles and it fits my needs quite well. For larger stuff I play Impetus.

I suppose there are 5 sets of rules that I play for Ancients, and it really depends upon the scenario and mood I and others are in. They are, in no particular order,

1.) Dux Bellorum

2.) WAB

3.) Basic Impetus

4.) Impetus

5.) Lion Rampant

Still play WAB but increasingly also Hail Caesar

Syrinx030 May 2017 6:16 p.m. PST

I play Hail Caesar about as much as WAB 1.5. I bought War and Conquest but never got a chance to play it.

I have never heard of ADLG but HC, DBA and To The Strongest were well represented at the last few conventions I attended.

Hmm. I do play HOTT, DBA and Lion Rampant, but I never played WAB.

Really, these sort of things should be thought of in terms of basing, as in "what are you now playing with your WAB armies?"

Axebreaker01 Jun 2017 4:35 a.m. PST

Impetus and Basic Impetus2.
