Not to throw water on what people imagine for the Corps, but I must point to US Code 8063

10 U.S. Code § 8063 – United States Marine Corps: composition; functions. The Marine Corps, within the Department of the Navy, shall be so organized as to include not less than three combat divisions and three air wings, and such other land combat, aviation, and other services as may be organic therein.

Whereas for the Army and Navy it reads

The Constitution grants to Congress the power to raise and support armies and a navy, to suppress insurrections, and repel invasion among other military-related governmental roles.

While I am no expert on US law, I think it might be easier to get rid of the Army and Navy than the Marine Corps

The USMC is part of the Navy. It was born absorbed.

No one else noticed that the poll question and the answers are a serious mismatch? Anyway, so few portions of the national government work that I see no reason to mess with those. Get back to me when the Army has transportable tanks and the Air Force gets interested in supporting ground operations.

Whether it makes sense or not is irrelevant. It would be politically foolish for a legislator to propose.

What; no "**** no!" option?

OC has it. +1. The poll question is a bit uninformed.
