I prefer to play the role of a general and not a captain. So big battle for me. |

Also, in the earlier periods, there is very little information to go to create skirmish scenarios (as contemporary accounts are loaded more towards great events and the higher the level, the less speculation is required) … Phil |

If in doubt, skirmishing. I like characters and in the end, the mind knows that you're looking at 3 dudes, even if you try to tell yourself its really 20. |

Except for a few periods (ww2) i prefer big battles. |

I enjoy big combined arms battles, played Avalon Hill boardgames growing up, but coming to the TTG hobby through RPGs, SF/F fiction, movies and TV, I prefer skirmish. |

I only play skirmish games anymore. Bigger battles take more time to play, plus more time to paint, prep, etc. |

It has been decades since I was a Platoon Leader or a Company Commander. I like at least a brigade on each side up to several Corps. So BIG for me baby. |

I am a very slow painter so although big battles have appeal skirmishes enable me to field my own figures. |
