Normally I am not in favour of more boards, but in this case I think it makes sense! Whatever your views on climate change, the threads on here are best avoided. They just go round and round in circles with both sides decrying the other and quoting reams and reams of meaningless statistics. As long as the participants in those discussions are happy, let them get on with it is my view. If they have a special place for it, even better! |

They just go round and round in circles with both sides decrying the other and quoting reams and reams of meaningless statistics. That sounds like a very good reason for NOT having a board! |

Id rather see a moratorium on discussing climate change. |

Since we know any climate change topic will veer into politics instantly, why not leave it in the Fez? |

I would so support a Climate Change board. Though more in the Anti Climate Change. |

I always support more boards. Anything that adds to the general confusion is good by me. This one, much like Ultramodern, seems more designed for Dawghouse bait than proper discussion… |
jdpintex | 29 Nov 2015 9:12 a.m. PST |
No support here. Although I tend not to read topics which don't interest me on any board |

I voted for it SOLELY on the logic and good sense of Citizen Smith. That is, 1) It gives those who insist on dragging such irrelevancies into this Website the forum they'll create anyway, and 2) Thus creating a self regulating leper colony I can block off and need never even have to think of again. Everyone very happy. TVAG |

Blue Fez the whole topic. |

Lets just call it the Climate Dawghouse Board |

Additionally I would make the Climate Change Board a free fire zone. Any insult goes. Nothing would be forbidden. Additionally anyone posting a Climate Change topic to any other board, particularly Science, gets an automatic 15 day stint in The DH. Even to Utter Drivel! Let the debate between and among people who should really be talking about toy soldiers be confined there. Nobody is ever convinced and both sides do nothing but sneer at each other. |

I'd like to say I'm warming to the idea but really, it leaves me cold. |
Winston Smith | 29 Nov 2015 7:45 p.m. PST |
And…….. On a typical Climate Change thread I accused scientists if being human. I got an enraged response. And that is why we need a separate Board. To save me from myself. |

Question: how is a web forum dedicated to miniature wargames the appropriate location, in even the tiniest way, for discussing a topic which is most certainly a pissing contest between scientists and politicians? I say this being fully cognizant of the fact that warfare, politics and technology have all been emeshed since prehistory. My best idea is to permanently ban anyone bringing the topic to the boards. |
Mako11 | 29 Nov 2015 11:43 p.m. PST |
I'm for it, as long as we can openly discuss the financial devastation that will occur due to the "necessarily skyrocketing energy prices" and taxes that will be levied on the public to combat it. |

Question: how is a web forum dedicated to miniature wargames the appropriate location, in even the tiniest way, for discussing a topic which is most certainly a pissing contest between scientists and politicians? This is NOT the appropriate forum. You are absolutely right on that. But the Science board is infested with such threads. By giving those who continue to post such topics on a site dedicated to miniature gaming a board to post such things, and ONLY that board, those who don't want to be bothered can turn that Board OFF. Then if they post to Science, the Editors can place that thread back in Climate Change and it's invisible again to those who wish it to be. |

By giving those who continue to post such topics on a site dedicated to miniature gaming a board to post such things, and ONLY that board, those who don't want to be bothered can turn that Board OFF. Why not just turn off the Science Board and be done with it? Nothing on the Science Board is relevant to gaming with miniatures. |

I do not think this applies to TMP at all. Plenty of other places on the web to discuss this issue. |
Weasel | 01 Dec 2015 8:35 a.m. PST |
Doesn't Bill run an adjacent site specifically for this kinda thing? |
Winston Smith | 01 Dec 2015 11:22 a.m. PST |
Yes he does and the usual suspects won't use it. I just want to get it off the Science Board. So I can turn it off. (See today's poll on voting for boards to turn off.) I choose to not join the Blue Fez, just like I chose to avoid Current Affairs. So, once the Climate Changers pro and con get their own board to play on, I can turn it off. Some may consider this hypocritical on an my part, since I have a history of snippy skepticism on Anthrocitis Global Change Climatic topics. I just want to stay out of trouble. Frankly I am sick of the "debate", since everybody says the same thing, quite lengthily. Even my witty snippiness is forced. You can even learn things on the bricole threads. But not on Climate Change threads. Everybody's minds have long been made up. Besides, what the heck does Climate Change discussion have to do with miniature wargaming? If I ran this joint, I would ban it totally, and without a poll. There are plenty if places to go for that. But at least we can isolate it. Let's keep the Science board for cool things like dinosaurs, black holes, or whether Heisenberg was tanking it developing the Nazi A-bomb. (I think he was, but that's another topic for another day.) |
Old Contemptibles | 02 Dec 2015 12:58 p.m. PST |
It doesn't matter, climate change is real, it is caused by man. There is so much misinformation and out right lies that attempts to pretend the "science is still out" well no it isn't. People who stick their head in the sand or watch Fix News to the exclusion of any other information. Play the fiddle while Rome burns. These climate change deniers will kill us all. It may already be too late. I vote no on this because it doesn't belong here. |
Winston Smith | 03 Dec 2015 5:44 a.m. PST |
You just stated the case why we do need such a board. I can turn it off. You're right. It does not belong here but if some insist in posting threads I can turn off the subject. What that "Fix News" stuff. Slamming a news source is a DH offense. |
MajorB | 04 Dec 2015 4:17 a.m. PST |
It doesn't matter, climate change is real Yes, climate change certainly is real. The climate has been changing for thousands, if not millions of years. And in most (nearly all?) of that time, humans had absolutely nothing to do with it. |
Charlie 12 | 04 Dec 2015 6:57 p.m. PST |
I'd rather see an an outright BAN on discussing climate change (and have said so repeatedly). But since that's not happening, this may be the only alternative. Let's keep the Science board for cool things like dinosaurs, black holes, or whether Heisenberg was tanking it developing the Nazi A-bomb. (I think he was, but that's another topic for another day.) Now THAT I can support. (And, yes, I agree, I think Heisenberg was tanking it…). |
