Other. I don't just jump into a period that I've never played and enjoyed, especially not proprietary crap like Games Workshop.

Mixing periods and specific rules in a jumble like this is not going to produce useful answers. FYI
The worst games are those in which the players can't make important decisions.
The second worst are those in which random factors are far more important than players' decisions.
Third worst are those where understanding the period is a handicap, because good historical tactics have nothing to do with good game tactics.
After that, it's pretty much taste.

I tend to agree with robert. As a fourth worst game type I'd say games at conventions with rules designed for specific miniatures and vice versa, of which Games Workshop is the devils spawn.

Good points

On a slight tangent, Toledo Wars? Seriously? People actually game a bloodless inter-state conflict?

Other. I have had no regrets from the games/genres that I have bought into. As my primary resource has dwindled (time), I have sold off a bunch of stuff: several fantasy armies, 1/2000 fighting sail fleets, 1/300 or micro armor armies, and a huge pile of board games. The only proprietary game that I have bought into is X-Wing. I still enjoy first edition, and I view those miniatures as "historical", which can be used with other rule sets.

Unfortunately I am still struggling to find enough time to enjoy the games and miniatures that I still have.

Never regretted any period I got in to or figures I bought. Some that I have sold I have regretted. That Pap Price figure with arm in a sling in particluar.

I also agree with Robert

I don't know if I've actively regretted getting into anything, but some things have resulted in notably little actual play for the money spent. Infinity comes to mind, as, long ago, does WH40k. Still hanging out a vague hope that Saga will not join that list.

I voted for WRG not because I didn't or don't like the period, it was just those rules (4th ed through 7 ed) I still enjoy the Classical Ancients period.
