There is no worse thing than badly painted eyes. End of. |

What Baccus 6mm says … But unbased tanks and vehicles (combined with based up foot figures) runs badly painted eyes pretty close. Phil |
Patrick Sexton | 26 Aug 2015 7:19 a.m. PST |
Based vehicles are the work of Shaitan. |
Jlundberg | 26 Aug 2015 8:37 a.m. PST |
Agree with Patrick. For 28mm, based vehicles are ridiculous. |
Zippee | 26 Aug 2015 8:43 a.m. PST |
For 6mm unbased vehicles are tedious in the extreme where is that kettenkrad (and which way up is it) |
Old Contemptibles | 26 Aug 2015 11:34 a.m. PST |
Never base vehicles. Never! Unpainted figures and gloss paint are the roots of all evil. |
Der Alte Fritz | 26 Aug 2015 12:27 p.m. PST |
I think that the "unpainted figures used in a wargame" meme is an urban myth. In my 25+ years of wargaming, I don't think that I have ever been to a convention and seen unpainted figures used in a game. |
pvernon | 26 Aug 2015 1:10 p.m. PST |
Alte, how about just primed? I think just a coat of primer is almost as bad as bare metal. Especially when there never seems to be any progress in painting the figure. |
D6 Junkie | 26 Aug 2015 1:33 p.m. PST |
Wow Fritz, there are gaming videos of Warhammer players doing just that. And they have no shame for they put it on youtube for all to see. |
Flashman14 | 26 Aug 2015 3:35 p.m. PST |
Yup, seen it in all the local stores' gaming areas – some models unpainted, some just primed. I don't recall seeing it at historical conventions but I've seen it at GenCon on numerous occasions. |

over done basing that don't blend in with the tables you play on. Like this there is no way you can play on a table this will blend in on.

Love gloss varnish … remarkable how these days it is a sign of 'free thinking' Phil |

After painting, I spray a gloss coat on fantasy figures and matte coat on historical. Call me crazy …. |
Dave Crowell | 28 Aug 2015 6:27 a.m. PST |
"Human eyes on horses" sounds more like a sculpting problem to me. |
Frederick | 28 Aug 2015 7:34 p.m. PST |
I must say that I have seem more than my fair share of either unpainted figs or only primed figs – much less now than previously |

What is worse than badly painted eyes? Easy those people that complain about others making the attempt.. (worse that rivet counters) Good luck and Best wishes to all those who try to paint their own figures and the eyes, regardless of how they turn out. Take pride in your work, and ignore those that make negative comments |
Old Contemptibles | 02 Sep 2015 11:40 a.m. PST |
This is sort of a taboo in this hobby to criticize someone's paint job. Especially if they do their own painting. So don't assume everyone who are praising your paint jobs are being honest. Perhaps they are just being polite. Nothing wrong with that. I have some 25mm French AWI figs that have terrible eyes and every time I try to correct them, they just get worse. I wouldn't post them and say "these are my snazzy new French figs aren't they great?" |
Old Contemptibles | 02 Sep 2015 11:44 a.m. PST |
I don't get giving historical wargame figs a glossy coat. It never looks right. I prefer flat matte finishes, YMMV. |
