I think ACW is probably the dumbest period to have tournaments.
Way back in the previous century, I read a battle report from the final round of an ACW tournament. Sherman 1865 beat Army of Potomac 1864.
I've happily fought against Byzantine army's with my Carthaginians (and beat them too!), because that is the nature of Ancients tournaments. But that acw example is just plain dumb.

AWI tournaments would probably be just as dumb, but fortunately I've never heard of one.
