I'm sure there is room in our hobby for both the old guard of rules writers as well as a new generation of designers…

Yes. No need for anyone to "step down and give someone else a chance." The free market will sort that out.

There's room for both. So "Other" it is.

Voted No – there's always been an in-flow of new designers, they just have to make a "better" game than is available in order to make an impact.

The question makes as much sense as asking popular writers or musicians to stand aside to let newbies have less competition.

Why can't I vote for both "No" and "This is ridiculous" at the same time? Both statements are absolutely valid.

There are always new rule writers. There is no need for anyone who writes rules to step aside.

Plenty of room under the tent for everyone.

+1 Parzival, I was thinking the exact same thing. "No. It is a ridiculous premise."

With Parzival and 79thPA on this. We're well beyond silly into tasteless and hateful here.

I'm with most of the others here. Capitalism will determine if someone 'steps down' or if a new writer survives.

Capitalism isn't the only thing.

No it isn't GamesPoet. It's just the only thing that works. Picture the committee which would get to determine which writers must "step down" and which ones were sufficiently "diverse" to be permitted to write in the future. And ask yourself what they're objective would actually be.

Having a bunch of suits in the capital making all the important decisions tends to work out really well--for the bunch of suits in the capital.

Yes, I know: my bad. "their" not "they're." What I deserve for posting when tired and angry.

Capitalism works, I don't think that any of us give a rip about who writes a set of rules- either we are inspired to buy them or not.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP21 Nov 2021 5:10 a.m. PST

I am, of course, still waiting for Bill to tell us which rules writers should never write again, and to give us a list of his approved "diverse" replacements.

No, nobody should step aside; nobody is in the way.
