I am probably the worst painter in the world when it comes to figures. 1/3000th ships are no problem, but I am hopeless when it comes to hussars and whatnot. Therefore I am always in awe when I see some of the paint jobs posted here, really top notch! |

I think of painting as a chore done only because I prefer painted figures on the table. x42 |

I paint as part of my exploration of periods and battles – but I also paint as a way of sharing my enthusiasm with everyone else (be it at shows, closed circle games, or by sharing on internet platforms)
Painting is one of the many aspects of historical wargaming that is all gain/no pain
if by some miracle figures came out of the moulds ready painted, I'd be repainting them for variety as a way of increasing everyone's enjoyment. Never a chore for me. |

I paint for myself. I have been doing it since 1974. I would like to think that I have picked up a few tricks along the way. I would like to think that I do a presentable job. Sometimes, it verges on "acceptable", and sometimes even "OK"!. Once or twice
"Pretty good"! Let's face it, if I wasn't doing something I could be proud of, that would be a very long time to be doing something I was crappy at. I paint for a few people, for pay or trade. They must like my work, but I paint for them as I would paint for myself. As for me, Texas Jack, I am not very good at ships. I am better at tanks than I am at ships. |

I paint for myself, I reference others' work to improve, and I try to improve so my figures are admired when I game with them. |

I paint for myself and my best friend who is also my brother-in-law, when He is on active duty. |

I paint for myself, and only because I have to. If I had the money, I would send everything out to be painted. For me, painting is not longer a part of the hobby--it is just a dreaded chore. |

x42brown said it for me. That said, I can find it relaxing sometimes. |

Myself but I also like the praise when I pull out new figures for a game with chums. I'm only human (contrary to public opinion). |

I like painting (wish I was better) but mainly to be honest out of habit- the first book I read on wargames said you should paint figures to play with – so I did. To be honest I'm as happy playing with cardboard chits on a board game, bases on a tabletop or marks on a map most of the tie – but I still paint. |

I paint up stuff for my friend Jim Clark too |

Like all artists, I do it because I must. Seriously. I've always had to create, regardless if it be writing (which I teach), painting, photography, modeling, websites, publishing, and so on. I always must create and teach. If I don't, I go crazy. |

I paint mostly for myself, or more specifically, at the command of my Muse. |

I paint for myself, and 20 years ago, used to win the occasional prize for it. These days I have been far surpassed, but I still get a thrill on putting a newly painted army on the table. |

I enjoy when the work is well received by my gaming group but I mostly paint for myself and to relax. |

Top five out of nine? Really? I'll let you in on a secret – you can vote for only one or two, if you like

I paint for myself, and I'm a far worse critic than anyone else. I know every little missed bit when I finish. Never satisfied. I agree with Winston Churchill. It should take about the first 1,000 years in Heaven to get to the bottom of it (painting). Perhaps more. |

Mostly for myself, but one choice that is not there is that I do paint sometimes to give minis to my friends – emphasis on give, so they are not clients Right now I am working on an elephant for a friend of Indo-Canadian ancestry |

Mostly for myself. I always do my best in the offchance my son will take over my armies When it's my turn to find the last round. |

I used to enjoy painting even more than playing, but these days painting is the most horrible of chores to be endured only in the most dire circumstances. |

I paint for myself. Speaking of which, I have 4 Pegasus US deuce and a halfs drying right now. Got to give their base OD. I'll be back. |
