very tough to replay any battle that involves ambushes or bad blunders

Agree with Cannae although Teutoberger Wald can be a bit of a tough one too

As Jim said, anything involving stupidity or an ambush is almost impossible. That said, long running fights like the siege of Alesia or Thermopylae are hard. For Alesia, which battle do you want and Thermopylae is just a case of wearing the units down, day after day.
