Its nice to win one now and then. |

I'd rather lose a close run/fun game than win a rollover. |

It depends on the game, and the groups playing it. Some rules are competitive, others are a beer-and-pretzels social event. Rick |

+1 to snurl1 & FusilierDan As long as the other person is nice about it I don't mind my unbeatable plan falling apart in front of my eyes. And usually there's some sort of compensation – like the Irregular E skirmishers who chase off the Regular A SHC. I still lose – but that's funny whether the SHC are my opponents or mine! |

Not a big deal, which given how frequently I lose is probably a good thing A hard-fought defeat is often a lot of fun |

If my opponent beats me, no sweat. If I blow it, not a problem. If the rules design/mechanics are the cause of the defeat then yes that is a problem. |

Winning is always good, but the real purpose is to get together with friends. That's why I don't play in tournaments. |

I play for fun and a substantial number of some of the best games I remember fondly have been losses. Winning is nice but not a reason to play. |

The important thing is did we all have fun? Nobody likes to get stomped and not too many people like to blow out their opponents over and over again. Good, close battles that come down to a nail biter at the end? That's the stuff! |

Me winning? Meh. The concept of winning – that someone wins and that is determined by outplaying the others? Vital. |

Again, I agree with etotheipi. |

What is this "winning" of which you speak? ;) |

Unless you are in a Real War then Winning is the only goal to achieve. |

I want to have fun first. I try to win but as long as I am competitive I don't mind losing. I don't play in tournaments though. |

How the heck do you rip on your friends if you lose all the time? Half the fun of wargaming is recounting the game afterwards and games past and bragging about one's prowess and, in good fun, teasing others about mistakes they've made. If you can't laugh at your disasters with everyone else, then you shouldn't be playing. Mind you, I usually play with friends here. When we have a visitor, we are respectful and don't get on with foolishness during and after the game. -- Tim |

They say they don't care on turn one. By turn five, everyone cares. It's normal to be competitive and when not taken to extremes, makes the game more enjoyable. |
