"What Makes a Spectacular Game (Final Round)" Topic

You know, all we've done is demonstrate that for the most part we mean "spectacular" to be the next grade up from "good" or possibly "great." No concern for spectacle as such.

Although they are related, "spectacular" and "spectacle" are not synonyms in modern parlance. One can lament that, but it's quite clear that the results of this poll indicate that even here, few hold to any strict idea that "spectacular" implies at its heart a visual element.

Of course, the TMP polling system is not a very good one, with the entries linked to whatever random members happen to post when a poll is suggested, onto which are always attached the "not my cuppa," "this is ridiculous" answers, even when they really shouldn't apply at all. (Or for that matter, "all of the above" and "none of the above.")

Alas, you just can't defeat the growing "genericism" of language into meaningless superfluities.

I may not be able to defeat the decline of English, Parzival, but I can go down fighting.

Anyway, pretty sure the last poll on "what makes a great game?" was fairly recent. A year or two?

I agree with Robert. The very definition of ‘spectacle' is something that is visually impressive!

In true TMP fashion, ALL the ‘visual' choices have been discarded before the final round!

What is the point of having such a rich language, with a massive and nuanced vocabulary, if people ignore what words actually mean. Bunch of muppets…
