Disagree 60 X 30 is a useful size for Polemos and related rules but is not "the"scale That is a great scale for larger games where one base equates to a battalion or its equivalent For example I use the 60 x30 for Ancients and ACW and use Polemos type rules I also do Napoleonic s ,Lace Wars and some colonial using 40 mm wide bases with various depths and multiple based units This way they can be used be used for other rule systems such as Lasalle, Black Powder, Napoleon's Battles etc |

It doesn't matter what the results of the poll are-- Glenn will still tell us how wrong we all are and start yet another thread extolling the virtues of 60 x 30 bases! 8)= |

I agree with nazrat unless it gets me Dawg Housed. |
John the OFM | 18 May 2014 10:28 a.m. PST |
This is a bad precedent, using train wreck threads as the basis for a Poll. |
Ethanjt21 | 18 May 2014 10:39 a.m. PST |
Another debate we don't need any more threads on. |
20thmaine | 18 May 2014 11:25 a.m. PST |
Doesn't work for DBA and HoTT – so no is my answer. |
John the OFM | 18 May 2014 11:55 a.m. PST |
Maybe Dear Editor just wanted a "Put up or shut up!" Poll. |
morrigan | 18 May 2014 2:31 p.m. PST |
I voted no. Please don't ask me again. I won't change my mind. |
Sparker | 18 May 2014 2:55 p.m. PST |
Let the record show who first started with the personal attacks on this poll: #2 So if Glenn responds, does that make him the aggressor? |

Where is the "Why do I care?" option? |
Ron W DuBray | 18 May 2014 3:56 p.m. PST |
all my 6mm sci-fi and WWII minis are on 20x20mm bases. Granted they have been in a storage box and unused for 20 years :) |
Charlie 12 | 18 May 2014 5:03 p.m. PST |
No. Doesn't work well for FnF, AoE or Naps Battles. As for the poll ending the Great 60x30 Debate (aka Trainwreck); don't count on it. Glenn pulled this stunt three times already; what's to stop a fourth. |
nazrat | 18 May 2014 7:59 p.m. PST |
"Let the record show who first started with the personal attacks on this poll: #2 So if Glenn responds, does that make him the aggressor?" Um, joking, dude (hence the smiley)! Where, oh where was there any sort of "personal attack"? |

Although a lot of people seem to be using 60mm x 30mm bases for 6mm games, it is not "the standard"; it is just probably the most popular at the moment. Jurgen |
x42brown | 19 May 2014 9:06 a.m. PST |
Trying to get Wargamers to standardise on anything is harder to do than herd cats. In some ways I'd like to see fixed standards but it isn't going to happen. I don't see anything wrong with discussing it if you enjoy flogging a dead horse. x42 |
RobH | 19 May 2014 2:46 p.m. PST |
Claiming such as "standard" is just nonsense (Actually it's but that will get censored). Won't work for Spearhead, Grande Armee, V&B, Crossfire, Panzer Korps, Impetus, Assault Gun, Kampfgruppe Normandy or infact ANY GAME I use 6mm figures for. |
Winston Smith | 19 May 2014 9:34 p.m. PST |
It is difficult for me to choose as the default basing scheme something that is in a set of rules I never heard of. |
Wombling Free | 20 May 2014 2:11 a.m. PST |
60x30 is my default basing scheme for all the rules I play in 6mm that cover wars prior to 1900. For 20th century and sci-fi I use a variety of different base sizes but nothing as large as 60x30. |
Martin Rapier | 20 May 2014 2:48 a.m. PST |
I only know one person who uses 60x30 bases for 6mm, and he works for Baccus
. So no, 60x30 is not the de facto basing standard for 6mm and never will be. The only thing which might come close to a 'standard' are DBA 40x20 or possibly Spearhead/PBI/whatever 30x30. Two 30x30 bases side by side of course make 60x30. My pre-twentieth century stuff tends to be on smaller bases as you can always put lots of small bases together if needed and you can also arrange them in nice formations. My Napoleonics are on 30x20 and APW/FPW in 30x10. WW1, WW2, moderns are all over the place, depending. All have magnabase on the bottom so can be attached to movement trays if desired. Rules come and go whereas figures don't and I'm not sticking a load of figures down on a huge base so they are useless for anything but one ruleset. |
Frederick | 20 May 2014 5:30 a.m. PST |
While 60 X 30mm is certainly an option, it is certainly not the industry standard None of my 6mm are on 60 X 30 – the Napoleonics are all on Age of Eagles sized based and the WWII are on 20 X 20 mm bases |
CATenWolde | 20 May 2014 1:44 p.m. PST |
100% of 6mm Napoleonics in downtown Helsinki are based on 20x20mm squares with magnetic bases for saboting. Obviously, this is the start of a new standard. |
20thmaine | 20 May 2014 4:21 p.m. PST |
There's a trainwreck thread on 60mmx30mm basing ? No – surely you jest? Anyway, I missed that one – but it would stand as testimony that wargamers really can argue over anything! There are even some that think pies other than apple are the finest dessert pie. Incredible, but true |
Martin From Canada | 21 May 2014 5:00 a.m. PST |
20th Maine, blueberry and strawberry-rhubarb come to mind. But like beer, if it's free – I'm not complaining about the kind. For the record my 6mm modern are based on 30mm X 30mm with a 10mm long I'd tag that doesn't count for measuring. |
Dave Crowell | 31 May 2014 5:39 p.m. PST |
If 60x30 is now standard how come nobody told Irregular? It's handy for some rules, not for others. |
