'Other' – 15th Century / Wars of the Roses. But a slightly bizarre poll in other ways. I'd hav difficulty distinguishing between 7 and 8th Century AD – and I'm an early medievalist; I would distinguish between Iron Age, Bronze Age, Neolithic and Mesolithinc. Though I don't game in any of them. |

5th century because of the whole Arthurian thing. 6th-9th because it was pretty much the Anglo-Saxon "hey day." 10th and 11th are pretty darned great too but I did not have room to choose. |

I voted 5th cent. assuming ancient meant ancient but I now see it includes medieval … Hmmm so hard to compare ancient and ancient/Dark Age with the completely different period that followed. 13th Century would be my answer to the other poll Phil |

What a stupid poll! By consensus "Ancients" usually are considered to have ended by about the mid 6th century (at the latest). Even the proclivity to include the so called "Dark Ages" may stretch it out to 1066 This poll has gone a way past 1066 and as only part 1 of a series there may be more centuries coming |

The title is misleading but the poll description does say "Ancients/Medieval." |

In the Ancients/Medieval period (up to 1400 AD), which century of British history interests you the most? Since when did the Medieval period end in 1400AD? |

9th century for me. You have the Great Army, Alfred burning cakes, etc, and, in Norway, the Battle of Hafrsfjord which seals the deal, although I was very tempted by the 11th century with Stiklestad, Fulford, Stamford Bridge and Hastings. Really I'm happy to game most of the early medieval period, when the foundations of high medieval social institutions were laid. |

Dr Berserker (I see what you did, then)… It's a good case you make for the 9th Century though. Phil |

The "no opinion", "not an Ancients/Medieval gamer", and "don't give a hoot about Ancient/Medieval Britons" options seem to be missing. |

Since the question was 'Ancients' I went with 1st century BCE and smacking Caesar. But I think I might prefer 14th century CE and the adventures of Hotspur. Fighting against Scots, and then releasing your Scots prisoners so they can help you fight against the English King. Now that's a century <3 |

Broad definition for Ancients – for me it would be "smacking Caesar" (good one, MiniMo), fightin' Vikings and Normans and the Hundred Years War |

Since the question was 'Ancients' I went with 1st century BCE and smacking Caesar. The question actually said "Ancients/Medieval (up to 1400AD)" |

What, no love for The Anarchy? Surly Stephen and Mitilda interest someone other than me. |

Isn't Arthur 6th Century? Camlann is supposedly 537AD, Mount Badon anywhere from 498 to 516AD. So I'm going with 6th century for my Arthur preference! |

Arthurian period traditionally starts in the mid 5th century with the coming of the Saxons. |

I don't do any ancients so I did not vote. I am also offended by the politically correct BCE designation. Mike Bunkermeister Creek bunkermeister.blogspot.com |

Why is there a "BCE" but at the same time, an "AD"? Before Christ (or Christian Era, non-partisan in these PC times) yet then, "Anno Domini", in the year of the Lord? Surely you can't mesh these two dating systems… make up your mind! Needlessly provocative, anyway. What's the point? |
