Harlan Ellison. Just kidding.

I did not get on with the only ones I have met

When my friend publishes that will make one.

I have yet to meet one – the husband of one of the people at the gym my wife goes to has published sci-fi but I haven't met him yet

The one I would like to meet is Glen Cook!

I think I'd get on well with Harllan Ellison.

I haven't met any on the list, so had to go with "other".

Sharon Cameron (ROOK), Kristin Tubb (THE 13TH SIGN), Tracy Barrett (KING OF ITHAKA, DARK OF THE MOON), Bruce Coville, Norton Juster (THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH).
They may not be the "household names" of the SF/F world, but they're all terrific people.

Timothy Zahn. I met him at an Origins and besides being open, approachable and courteous to all, he was a gamer.

Hard choice. I went with Poul Anderson, but Mike Stackpole, M.A.R. Barker, and Gordon Dickson all rank right up there, as did L. Sprague DeCamp (who did not make the list).

Like I said in the poll suggestion, I'm an old friend of Justin Gustainis, going back to 7th Grade.
We were drinking buddies through college too.

He's written some very good modern horror stuff in series and stand alone novels. Check him out.

I have also met Fred Pohl and Gordon R Dickson, very nice gentlemen.

Susan Matthews – nice person – but several on the list strike me as nice people – just havent met them

WillieB27 Nov 2015 11:24 a.m. PST

Alas, none.
The only famous persons I ever met were all actors.
Charlton Heston, Goldie Hawn and Vincent Price.

Pictors Studio27 Nov 2015 11:26 a.m. PST

I've never actually met any. The only one I've interacted with is not on the poll, but has always been very nice in my interactions with him.

OOPS! Forgot one and he is an SF writer but not on the list.
David Drake at a book signing!

John the OFM27 Nov 2015 11:29 a.m. PST

This list is big enough that it should have been a Pick 5.

Bill Forstchen. I've known him for many years now. I did a lot of research for him for his "Lost Regiment" series and in return, he wrote me into it as a minor character.

Nice guy in real life and has a wicked sense of humor.

David Weber. He was approachable and very enthusiastic when I met him at a Con in Houston some years ago.

I met Gordie Dickson once, a very nice gentleman. Met David Weber once also. Agree with Shag that he was very approachable and kind.

Lois McMaster Bujold. Not just a very nice lady, but the best SF&F writer of our age.

Huscarle28 Nov 2015 5:28 a.m. PST

I've met a few at various Forbidden Planet book signings when I was younger; David Gemmell was a nice chap, sadly left us far too early.

Scott MacPhee28 Nov 2015 8:36 a.m. PST

Neil Gaiman.

Generalstoner4928 Nov 2015 9:31 a.m. PST

Dan Abnett.

lclapp28 Nov 2015 10:11 a.m. PST

David Weber or Patty Briggs

Stephen R Donaldson, author of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. Was set up for book signings in a small bookstore in Santa Barbara. Acted like he had all the time in the world to sign books and chat with folks. Very personable.

Weasel01 Dec 2015 8:36 a.m. PST

Brandon Sanderson is a pretty cool bloke from when he did a book signing here in Oregon.

Gavin Thorpe isn't a fantastic writer but he IS a really nice guy, and very animated when he speaks. Met him many years ago in Denmark.

Rogues102 Dec 2015 11:14 a.m. PST

I'm adding David Walton back into the mix. I have worked with Dave for years and he is truly a nice person and a great writer. He is also an active Board gamer and gets miniature gaming. Still trying to convince him to work a flying car into his next book…
