It seems to me there's an option missing between "no reason to suspect" and "I believe I have".

I have some Asperger-y traits, so there's some reason to suspect I'm on the spectrum, but on balance I would guess I'm not.

i have depression issues but not autism
'i have friends with autistic children so I am aware of what autism looks like

I thought Bricole was an obscure 1814 battle?

I think this poll is highly irresponsible.
Autism is not a flippant thing, nor is it fully understood, and quite frankly, it is both popularly and medically applied to far too broad a spectrum of behaviors. (For the record "Asperger's Syndrome" has been dropped as a viable medical term for this very reason— it's too generic a description to be an accurate diagnosis of a medical or mental condition.)
This is why there is so much confusion about what it is and so much mis-information about potential causes. I really don't think we should be stirring that pot!

So, no, I don't think that wargaming and actual autism have any relationship whatsoever, any more than any detailed activity, interest or hobby does.
I do think that there is a tendency among wargamers towards social awkwardness, lack of social awareness, and obsessive interest in detail, not to mention an obsessive insistence on "being right", but I don't think these are evidence of autism.

I think that a lot of collectors – wargamers, stamp collectors, vintage car collectors, etc – have some traits that people call "austistic"

I also agree with Parzival – Autism Spectrum Disorder is a real diagnosis with real criteria (you can look up DSM-5 to see them) and people toss the word autism around a little too flippantly; IMHO – disrespectful for those people and their families who struggle with it

+1 Parzival and Frederick.

I agree with Parzival and Frederick.
It's too serious a topic to have a silly poll and ask a bunch of non-serious people to jokingly self-diagnose.
It's not a joke.

I'm bipolar, does that count for anything?

Editor---You keep asking readers to read things. How irresponsible!

+100 Deucey.

This poll is in poor taste. You shouldn't need to ask why.

von Schwartz ver 221 Oct 2021 5:38 p.m. PST

Wargamers tend to be OCD rather than autistic

genew49223 Oct 2021 1:07 p.m. PST

As a retired special educator with over 40 years experience I too find this poll in poor taste and irresistible. During my time I developed a number of programs for students with Autism all along the spectrum. Let's stick to miniatures; asking folks to diagnose themselves for a condition which is extremely complicated is not productive.
