The beauty of this talk board is between Zardoz and Jenkins Ear once you ask you learn more than you'd ever know.

Yes, many great "truths" are told here.
Whether the tellers know them or not.

There is both truth and truthiness on TMP. Grant me the wisdom to know it when I see it.

I just looked at my front page and it turns out I have opened 1/8 of the threads … 7/8 I clearly decided were unlikely to be of interest. I guess I must get enough of that 7/8 to know not to bother.

I'm sure I used to open much more than that but I know better, now, I think …

I also have all the fantasy, sci-fi and ultramodern stuff switched off (so it's 1/8 of what's left that looks of interest … ) …

But most of what's on the interesting minority of threads I open I do understand.

I figure I get about 80%, mostly not getting some of the Sci-fi stuff plus (to me) obscure sports references

Cerdic18 Nov 2014 10:50 a.m. PST

I get most of the historical references.

Despite the world domination of American films and TV, there are still some aspects of American culture that haven't made it to Britain yet! These I have to ask about if they spark my curiosity!

The biggest cause of bafflement is when Americans start talking about these odd sports that haven't really caught on anywhere else…….

Most of what I don't "get" is battle reports of games I don't play.

I just looked at my front page and it turns out I have opened 1/8 of the threads … 7/8 I clearly decided were unlikely to be of interest. I guess I must get enough of that 7/8 to know not to bother.

There is that too. Not being interested enough to open it up is not necessarily indicative of "not getting" it.

Most I think, but I don't really know.

American "sports" – not really.

European "sports" – not really.

I probably just avoid the bits that I'm not up to speed on. Modern RPGs for example.

I get nearly all of it but I like coniderbly less, and that amount is decreasing as age and time have forced me to narrow my specialties quite a bit.

I did not used to get all the references here…maybe about 50%. But over the years, I've learned quite a bit and probably get 80% of what is said by folks from other countries.

I understand most of what I am interested in, which is a limited set of eras and some specific Science Fiction and Fantasy themes – after five decades in miniatures (more for war games, board war games, etc.,) I know what I like/am interested in and the rest doesn't matter.

I understand most of what is on TMP, but for the life of me haven't been able to understand more thatn 10% of what SmokeyRoan blethers on about ;-)

Terrement20 Nov 2014 2:00 p.m. PST

TunnelRat,

Consider that a blessing. Mindbleach is a terrible thing to need.

Thing is I don't think even Smokey knows.

I understand at least 25%-35%.
