Not any more. I gave up guns with the thought that with age you can do foolish things without thought. x42 |

I don't own a gun, but I have no opposition to gun ownership. |

Used to own a black powder musket but sold it off when I quit Civil War reenacting. It was useful in getting me out of jury duty once. When the lawyers were interviewing potential jurors, the defense attorney asked if we owned a gun. I said yes, not elaborating that it was a Civil War musket. All gun owners got excused. |
etotheipi | 24 Sep 2016 3:50 a.m. PST |
I go with what I said in the pre-poll. None. I don't have any opposition to gun ownership. I also don't have any more "like" to own one someday than I would "like" to own a new lawnmower. For me, a gun is a tool. If I need one, I'll get one. I also have no problem with people who are gun hobbyists and enjoy their use in that way. Or lawnmower hobbyists. |
Florida Tory | 24 Sep 2016 4:31 a.m. PST |
The poll choices do not reflect the pre-poll discussion. Numerous people suggested responses along the lines of langobard's or etotheipi's resonses, yet it a similar choice is not included here. Rick |

hahahaha, great post. "I also have no problem with people who are gun hobbyists and enjoy their use in that way. Or lawnmower hobbyists." |

The choices seem skewed towards an obvious interpretation. "90% of the votes in this poll favour gun ownership yet the minority want to take them away". Sorry if that sounds political but I've worked with stats for a long time and I know how choices can be selected. |
Cerdic | 24 Sep 2016 6:45 a.m. PST |
There should be a choice for "no, because I live in a country where legally owning a gun is difficult"…. |

I have a couple that are mine but the others are work related. |

None currently, since I'm getting too old for hunting. But I, too, am not opposed to gun ownership. |
skippy0001 | 24 Sep 2016 8:47 a.m. PST |
I don't own one. NY lessened the laws on crossbows and I look at those a lot. I'm fascinated with firearms until I have one in my hand-then the magic goes away. I liked the old days when BAR's, Thompson SMG's and opium could be bought at the same store.:) Nowadays it's difficult finding decent warheads for my Davy Crockett. |

If this was about owning an Ipad, would the "no" option say "I am morally opposed to owning fruit-themed computing devices" ? I do not own a gun because: A: I am too lazy B: It's expensive C: It just never occurred to me D: I would like to, but other things seemed more important E: I can't decide which one to get F: Family situation is one where a firearm would be a bad idea G: The tiny gnomes in my house do not observe correct firearms safety rules. H: I don't have one for political, religious or moral reasons I: I don't have the room. J: Where I live its a bit of a hassle and I got things to do. K: I dont feel I need one. Pick one. |

I put the question "do you own a gun?" in a class with "do you keep large amounts of cash. valuable jewelry or art objects in your home? " or "when are leaving town for you vacation?". The type of question I do not hear. As this response is not exclusive to me, any and all polls that have this type of question are subject to question. By the way there is a flaw in the poll questions. Except for single shot rifles all the other rifles have magazines. |
Flashman14 | 24 Sep 2016 3:56 p.m. PST |
@Hinkley – Some accept clips: Mauser Kar98k, M1 Garand, etc. |

A lever action would also be in the "other" category, as would over-under and side-by-side guns. |

Five options weren't enough, I need seven. |
David Hinkley | 25 Sep 2016 1:12 a.m. PST |
Flashman 14 Those clips feed the rifle's magazine. The magazine is the part a firearm that holds ammunition prior to bring chambered. As is the case with most absolutes. I was somewhat incorrect, drillings, double barreled rifles and revolving rifles are not single shot weapons nor do they have a magazine. Lever action repeaters do have a magazine. |

Family situation is one where a firearm would be a bad idea When my little brother bought a shotgun and brought it home our mother said "If there's a gun in the house I'll be the first to use it."….from that point on we always picked up our dirty laundry and kept the guns away from Ma…..

If this was about owning an Ipad, would the "no" option say "I am morally opposed to owning fruit-themed computing devices" ? God, I hope so! @Ironwolf – Lawnmower hobbyists are a real thing: link YouTube link link link … well, some of that is quite surreal. Then again, we spend a lot of our time arguing over fashion mistakes for little dolls. |

Like many of the above, I own no guns but am not opposed to gun ownership Regulated gun ownership, but gun ownership |
Old Contemptibles | 25 Sep 2016 7:23 p.m. PST |
Other: "I don't own any guns." This poll is worded in such a way that it is assumed if you don't own any guns you are against gun ownership. |
Private Matter | 26 Sep 2016 8:17 a.m. PST |
It should be semi-automatic pistol and not automatic pistol. I actually own at least one in each category because I enjoy not target shooting. I don't hunt nor do I feel that home defense is a reason to own a gun. I just enjoy shooting. |
Buff Orpington | 26 Sep 2016 9:12 a.m. PST |
I also don't have any more "like" to own one someday than I would "like" to own a new lawnmower. For me, a gun is a tool. If I need one, I'll get one. Which needs a poll of its own. :D |
DJCoaltrain | 26 Sep 2016 11:24 a.m. PST |
It's an indiscreet question. |
goragrad | 26 Sep 2016 9:43 p.m. PST |
.45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol). Once again letting the opposition define the terms. Presumably whoever put that poll together and made it a top 5 assumed that no one owned more than five of the choices? Or was the presumption that based on number or personal reference would guide the choice for those with more? Perhaps an all of the above would have been not inappropriate? Also would a black powder rifle come under the category of 'other rifle?' At any rate due to my questions I merely voted that I would like to own a gun someday. Actually there are several that I would like to own… |
Raynman | 27 Sep 2016 2:38 p.m. PST |
There needs to be an "all of the above" option. |

I do not own a gun. I do know some Swiss people who do but most are army reservists. I am from England and in the UK nobody does because they are illegal for almost everybody. |
