Any chance of adding Wargames Factory? Still early days, but their quality has soared since the first Romans, and they're becoming a decidedly significant player.

What No WF, Essex, 1st Corps, Companion, so on and so forth…

Come to that, Copplestone have got 4 votes already, and they don't even have an ancients line….

BravoX28 Oct 2009 5:39 a.m. PST

WF – the best? You go to be kidding!
In any case WG would rank way ahead them on any criteria you can think of.

Even someone like Miniature Design Studio have a bigger and better quality range of ancients, and there is also Renegade.

DeanMoto28 Oct 2009 6:05 a.m. PST

Ahhh, I was able to pick 4 lines pretty quickly, but had trouble deciding on the 5th – picked "Other" – for the "one" that may have been left off the poll. And, as the poll is for "Ancients Line" – I used a cutoff of about 500 AD, so didn't pick a line that started with say, early-Crusades. I also agree with Dom – I wasn't sure if Copplestone had any "Ancients" – so didn't pick them, although they make nice figures. Dean

P.S. Redboubt seems underrated – I have not only their Trojan War range, but also their Early-Italian line, and am very happy with both. grin

What No WF, Essex, 1st Corps, Companion, so on and so forth…

Nobody nominated them.

I've clicked on Irregular.

Value for money. £60.00 GBP for 100 figure army packs. 75p a figure thereafter.

Are you guys kidding me???

A&A figs are da bomb! (no I don't work for them or even live in the same country)

They are expensive and cross-pond transactions are never fun; but . . . we are talking the "best" not the cheapest.

Copplestone up to 11 votes now, and they still don't make a 28mm ancients line…. ;-)

They do make Tupi, Inuits, cavemen, and dinosaurs…

Ron W DuBray28 Oct 2009 2:47 p.m. PST

Copplestone is one of the web pages that locks up my computer. I dont know why but they have for the last year or so.

so they sell nothing as far as I can tell :)

nycjadie28 Oct 2009 4:32 p.m. PST

I totally forgot about this thread! I do remember Allen did his best to derail it from the get-go.

Maybe if enough people vote for Copplestone, it will convince them to make an Ancients line! Yet another 'feature' of the TMP polling process!

RABeery29 Oct 2009 9:33 a.m. PST

What Companion ancients? Try ordering some, it's like nominating a film thats never been released.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER29 Oct 2009 10:44 a.m. PST

I picked 3 and other, so I still have a vote for sale…er I mean remaining. evil grin

Feet up now29 Oct 2009 2:00 p.m. PST

Voted for three ,but my favourite is often bashed a bit and they are doing well in the poll.

Skeptic29 Oct 2009 2:32 p.m. PST

Nobody nominated them.

And when, where, and how were nominations made? I don't see TAG listed, for that matter.

ComradeCommissar30 Oct 2009 8:25 a.m. PST

What ancients to the Perrys make?

ageofglory30 Oct 2009 9:39 a.m. PST

The Perry's don't really make ancients, per se, but they do have some great medieval-renaissance offerings:

Crusades
Hundred Years War
Samurai
Choson Koreans

If Tupi and dinosaurs count, these certainly ought to.

Mick in Switzerland30 Oct 2009 12:43 p.m. PST

Gorgon is not on the list. Their ex Artizan range of Spartans is one of my favourites.

I would have voted for Wargames Factory if they had been an option.

By the way, as ancients runs to 1485 according to WRG so I agree that Perry qualify. I have their Crusades and Orleans figures. Crusader have some very nice stuff for Ancients and Dark Ages as do Artizan.

Mick:

I know you've heard it before, but I like to use the 5th C. AD as the cut-off for "Ancients." You know, the whole fall of the Western Roman Empire, and great stuff like that. Figure too, that TMP itself breaks forums down to Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, etc. Perry would definitely get my vote for the later periods. grin Dean

aecurtis Fezian30 Oct 2009 4:39 p.m. PST

With the period so poorly defined as to include Copplestone, Crocodile, and Perry, and with so many companies omitted, this poll has about as much credibility as one that asks: "Is an apple red?":

a) Yes
b) No
c) Tuesday

Total waste of time.

DeanMoto30 Oct 2009 4:49 p.m. PST

Allen:

You left off d) Granny Smith.

aecurtis Fezian31 Oct 2009 9:29 a.m. PST

Granny Smith knows what color her apples are.

Mick in Switzerland31 Oct 2009 12:16 p.m. PST

Dear Editor,

Please can we redo this Poll with clearer parameters and with the addition of Gorgon, Wargames Factory, Essex, 1st Corps, Companion, Miniature Design Studio,Renegade.

I think that a Poll of up to 400AD will give a very different result to a Poll up to 1485.

Regards
Mick

aecurtis Fezian31 Oct 2009 2:25 p.m. PST

Best also include Warlord Games, Imago Militis, and Aventine--you know, companies that actually make ancient figures.

Steve, I object to your characterization. I was being very positive:

On this thread, I was pointing out the futility of such a question:

TMP link

…and I think that thread, resulting in this poll, has proved me right!

Oh, and lose the options based on the suggestions for "Cobblestone Castings" (sic) and "Crocodile games" (sic). Madness.

Paul Y01 Nov 2009 12:01 a.m. PST

I kind of like my Magister Militum, 1st Corps and Essex figures… :P

Couldn't we have a vote on who makes the nicest decals instead?
;-)

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP02 Nov 2009 12:35 p.m. PST

Copplestone, obviously….

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER03 Nov 2009 10:26 a.m. PST

I still have a vote. (hint hint)

DavePauwels03 Nov 2009 11:11 a.m. PST

I so wanted to vote for Aventine and Gorgon (because you have to vote for yourself), but was saddened by their omission. So, Crusader it is!

vojvoda30 Dec 2009 8:07 a.m. PST

GHQ micro armour is the best ancients period!
