I had to go with d'Artagnan. He had plenty of time to practice while Alatriste was wasting his time with actual military service in actual wars. |

I've only seen the movie Alatriste. And it shows him to be a decent swordsman. But he does get bestet. His ward/squire Íñigo on the other hand is show as a superb swordsman. He quite easily kills that man that almost killed Alatriste. d'Artagnan according to the books and various movies is shown to best people reckoned very good fighters. |

hmmmmn, probably d'Artagnan, but Alatriste in his prime would be a very tough fight. Of course my money is on Cyrano, but he's just on the side writing poetry. |

I follow @Gunfreak's reasoning on this. d'Artagnan would probably take Alatriste. Course that would bring Inigo into the picture, that'd be the end of it. Not only was Inigo a great swordsman he's also a stone killer. Not a mind set I recall d'Artagnan having. |

Neither since this would be like the duels that d'Artagnan fought with his buddies and they would start and then have to kill a bunch of the Cardinal's guard. |
