"Kill them all! God knows His own!"

And eat the minstrels.

Children's Crusade.

I had to go with the Reconquista. The gaming possibilities for a 700+ year period are too good to pass up.

The 1st! Mostly because I like the time period of the Early Middle Ages anyway.

Curious that the first one mentioned is the Children's Crusade, but it is not mentioned in the poll under that name.

Anyway, I voted for the First, because like the Godfather and Star Wars, the first in a series is always the best.

I can't even remember suggesting this poll I eventually went with the 4th.They were all sort of disasters but the profound effect of unintended consequences would have to rest with the 4th crusade in my opinion

Other — toss up between two not on the list: Children's and Allenby's

First Crusade, though I tend to think of the People's Crusade (Peter the Hermit and Walter sans Avoir)as part of the First Crusade.

The Fourth, because I've been reading an interesting book about it and since Phil Barker invoked the lack of land battles (apparently, because the Byzantines refused battle) to censor the crusaders' army from DBMM.

Oh, c'mon, peeps! Cœur de Lion. Saladin. How is the Third Crusade not winning?

Chalfant24 Sep 2014 4:40 a.m. PST

Third Crusade would have been my 2nd choice :)

But, actually, the entire period is interesting.

Love this poll! I just started teaching a course on the Crusades earlier this month, and I'm putting the finishing touches on my (early) Crusader and Fatimid armies.

3rd…other than the 1st it's the only other one that had a chance at long term success…
