Never had a real problem … take them on the plane, of course, so usually have to open the case (as much to satisfy people's inevitable fascination) … The only near hassle I've had a few times is when cabin staff want to tell you which way up and where the case is going to go. Well you just have to correct them on that no it isn't going that way up … So stay calm, stay polite and explain the reasons … That has allowed me to take armies to events all over the world … Airline and airport staff are pretty good usually. Never had a problem – though if I am planning on painting – I put paints in my liquids bag and leave the x-acto at home making sure I have prepared figures ahead of time. |

Well back in 1995 I brought my WFB Dwarves back with me from Kuwait. They were all metal miniatures and yes they got the Security individuals attention. But I was allowed to travel with them. Today I would not do this. |

I've flown cross country several times and never had a problem. Some fun, yes, but never a problem. The box is always clearly labeled on the outside. They never have opened it before it goes through the scanner. I usually wait near the scanner crew to see their reactions, which have ranged from "what the hell?" to "Wow! … Cool!" when they open the box lid. Then I tell them about the Con I'm going to (never know when you will find new recruits) and tell the scanner people to load the image into their database as other gamers might be coming through. BTW, absolute best reaction was in B-More. They were totally geeked over a 15mm Sassanid Persian army for Armati. I think there were 6 people at the table just for little old me. |

I seldom fly but the last 2 trips I did take minis to paint. As they were not finished I wrapped them in tissue and put them all in a checked bag along with the tools and paint. No problem with them. |

I fly all the time and while I seldom take minis with me I do sometimes – the last time I had them wrapped in tissue in my carry-on and they went thru just fine |

Paints and spears get their attention. In some 6mm stuff I was using piano wire. Lucky they didn't touch the spears as they'd have been impaled and likely the collection confiscated. |

Only twice have I had the airport security people even notice miniatures. Once was "Hey! Those are COOL!" The other was when I stayed an extra day after Historicon and flew back on Tuesday. "Hey! I thought all you guys left yesterday!" |

The only time I've ever had an issue was when I had several Thoroughbred ships in my carry on. The x-ray guys got a 'little' excited as they thought I was carrying large caliber shells in my bag. Then we had a long discussion on the models and one of the guys asked where I bought them as he wanted a couple. All ended well. |

I guess it is only a problem if they try to confiscate the ones with weapons. |
