I couldn't have done the battle of Bennington without The Band! grin

Seriously, whenever a unit grows beyond a size that is not ever specified, I love to add musicians, especially if they had a differentiated uniform.

They are a pain to paint, but I do add them.

Same here. Usually, horse & musket heavy infantry are bought and painted in groups of about 24, and they always have a drummer if I can scrounge one up--especially if the coat color was different. Lights and cavalry come in 12's, and usually have a trumpeter.

If there's a drummer in the package, there's a drummer in the unit. Otherwise I don't purposefully buy or paint them.

I have a few in my American Civil War collection.

I use them to mark that a unit is rallying.

Other single figures are used to indicate a unit has broken (running figure without a weapon).

A single figure holding a flag is used to mark the target of a charging unit.

I have few drummers since most of my armies are ancient Greek or Roman. Hence trumpet players or similar, which are really easy to paint.

My planned Indian army will have lots of musicians, most of which I plan to convert myself, with lots of different types of drums !

Drummers were used to transmit orders. They are as essential to a unit as an officer or ensign.

I count their figures in my manpower but wish I had them in every battalion but don't

Least favourite figure to paint, but I think 100% of my horse and musket battalions have them (quite a few have 2 drummers)

KSmyth10 Dec 2017 2:17 p.m. PST

Not a fan, but I always include them in my units.

I'm about 50/50. I have always dreamed of fielding a unit of nothing but drummers just to freak out my fellow gamers.

Mithmee11 Dec 2017 1:54 p.m. PST

Well it is either use them or buy more miniatures.

I'm not a fan of drummers but I still put them in my units.

Also not a fan but also have a musician in all my units – have even done up buglers for jaeger units

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART16 Dec 2017 4:00 p.m. PST

I like different units to spice up my bases but I draw the line at mimes…
