Perhaps worth observing that I don't know many people who stopped playing while they had an acceptable opponent, though family, work and education can stretch the intervals between games.

Those I know who did stop were often not themselves acceptable opponents.

Roller derby took me away for a few years; once I retired from that sport, I had time for gaming again!

Had a heart attack in 2000 and didn't game for a year, I didn't stop hanging out at the FLGS but I didn't play. Then, one day, I did.

The biggest reason I started gaming was that I found the local group. The divorce made the it much easier to go gaming.
