I want a hobby ship!

HMS Wargaming 101 guns a crew of 750 and a 2 year supply of figures, paints and basing material.

I still keep a folder of hobby catalogs. It's just digital now.

Cut my own bases appears here for the second time.

Flashman14, that just reflects the level of incredulity at this activity…

But Testors gloss enamel was all I had!

I still cut my own bases for everything that is not on washers.

I still cut some of my own bases as well

legatushedlius05 Dec 2016 1:00 p.m. PST

I cut all my own bases out of art card.

But Testors gloss enamel was all I had!

Plus it made the miniature all shiny.

Oh and I still paint bases green.

Ah, the international money orders.
First, my local branch would not do them.
Then I checked the Yellow Pages (remember them?) to find a bank that did. The branches with easy parking didn't. The main office with a parkade and validated tickets did.
I went to that branch. The clerk asked "What's an International Money Order?"
She called her Supervisor.
"You want it in English Pounds? Why?"

Finally got it, mailed it on, and six weeks later there was a nice heavy box from Essex sitting on my doorstep.

Kids today. Whine about "outdated shopping cart"…..
Don't know how good they have it!
Get off my lawn.

Oh, and I still cut my own bases, you lazy kids.

If wish I still lived in a world without computers and, yes, I understand the irony of saying that with a computer.

Shoot should have been added:

Everytime I'm in a new town I would find the yellow pages in the hotel room and look up "Hobby – Supplies" and "Toys & Games" and see if any local shops were worth going to.

I'd plot them on the paper map and hit all the promising ones accordingly. The best ones had an ad with their particulars.

Me too, Flashman14. Just recently moved to a new city here, and sadly one of the two FLGS has closed due to family troubles for the owner.
Mind you, they had such trouble with importers telling them what people *wanted* which was not a reflection of reality, so I shamefully didn't order much, nevertheless I supported their games nights and so on. Always on the hunt for shops though.
