I do it and enjoy it. Either I discover a ruleset that turns out to be an interesting take on the period, or I find the set has little or nothing to recommend it which adds to my collection of stories to tell my friends.

The best part of miniatures is being able to use different rules with the same models

Well yes if you are using single based figures for skirmish gaming. But there is no standardized basing so choosing, a set of rules is a huge decision. Particularly if your re-basing.

I can use my Ancients – mostly based on 40mm bases – for multiple rulesets. And enjoy trying new sets out.
