As long as the standard apparel is nearly the same I don't mind. But it looks a bit silly if one unit is carrying an inch long rifle/musket and the other one and identical one half the size.

As WillieB says It is the equipment size/style that may exclude using figures for me rather than the body size/proportions. That said I think using only two manufacturers usually doen't work where using three or more does.

As I say again – our Tactical Response Unit has a partner grouping of J who is about 6'5 and large and R who is 5'2 on a good day. So size of person doesn't matter that much to me. However, they both carry the same size rifle and pistol.

As a result, I think that back before the industrial revolution weapons could vary in size. But afterwards, I don't think that they did, and so mix figures less in the more modern times.
