It seems that pretty much every thread has someone who can't shut up about their pet peeves, so I'm inclined to say open the floodgates and let it rot.

It'll be a lot of opinion with just a fig leaf of science – so I'd say leave it out.

Notably with respect to the funding of Science, it is hard to discuss that without at least a consideration of politics

Then it ought to be discussed some other place, where political speech is welcome. The current rule is simple – no politics on TMP. This rule WORKS, lets keep the rule.

Politics and science/scientism are often intertwined. Trying to keep them separate is folly.

Curiously, all of my science classes in school were able to talk about science without ever addressing politics. Wonder why it can't happen here?

Note that I never took a political science class, so don't know what goes on there. Maybe we need a political science board?

Since what passes for most "discussion" about "science" here on TMP is heavily political motivated with cherry picked articles I say please do it. Add the politics and just get it out in the open. That way I can ignore it much as I have any modern wars group which also declines into politics. Makes my time here much more pleasant.

Irish – Political science is something else altogether though :)

Its the same as the old "Its impossible to discuss suppressing fire mechanics in a tabletop game without also discussing politics" though, which is of course silly.

Science can certainly be discussed without ever mentioning anything political. Those with an agenda feel obliged to add that noxious spice to the mix in order to attempt to prove some sort of tinfoil hat related point.
