Am I at a Games Day or Convention? In which case, heck yes. Am I grocery shopping at the supermarket? Heck no.

Now if you had said "Can I spot a gamer?" I'd give you a cautious 'sometimes' as that description covers RPG'ers, the cosplay and LARP crowd, re-enactors and all points west. At which point you're getting clues as to tribal differences with tee shirts, accessories casual conversation.

Honestly, looking at pics of Featherstone, Grant or Guilder through to Henry Hyde, Sam Mustaffa or Stephen Summerfield you've got no way of knowing that they had any interest in miniatures at all.

Only if I look in the mirror.

I think this still depends on them being in "game mode". Do all RGPers look like Vin Diesel or Terry Crews? While LARP has many versions that are played "in public", LARPers aren't always "on". And, as weird as this sounds, even these subcultures have "posers" who are not part of the community but affect as if they were.

Since this type of identification suffers from the (unknown) denominator problem, I don['t think you can get a good estimate of TP, FP, TN, and FN.

No. I remember driving up to Denver from CO Springs for an all day meeting. On the way home at the end of the day, I stopped at Attacktics, and one of the guys from my office was there too. I had not idea he was a wargamer.

Well, I do assume everyone I see in a cardigan and a dark tie is a wargamer …

It was easier in the days of Enamel Paints – the tell tale signs of paint on the fingertips – you know my methods Watson.

Not so easy nowadays for mini gamers – as noted, latex paints have made this a lot harder but on the other side it can be fairly easy to spot video gamers
