"Sub-Hobbies" Topic

I didn't answer the poll (selecting 5) as I have many more than 5 I could select. Almost all of those subjects listed are ones I have or have had participated in, so my view is that the poll is far too restrictive.

Better to be able to select ALL of the boxes you feel apply to you, or to have a box marked "all of the above".

Agreed, I would have all except tournaments.

This type of poll is best for a drag-and-drop put-these-in-order assessment, with a cutline to drop things that do not interest you.

Agreed. I need somewhere between twice as many and half. While I'm griping, "figure collection" needed to be broken down. Buying 24 heavy cavalry to make a British army ready for a game isn't the same thing as buying them because they're pretty--or because they're Staddens and you don't have Staddens. You could say the same thing about "dice collection."

I am, I think, an army builder rather than a figure collector, but the option wasn't there.

All of the above except math and statistics: OK I do a lot of rule writing and scenario design and test so I need to do the maths but it is a tool it isn't part of my hobby (or even close to my interests) …

Some observations,

You are asking two questions, what aspects of the hobby do you enjoy and what are some sub-hobbies of the gaming hobby?

1. A few of these are not hobbies of any kind. They fall under the category of parts of the hobby I like best.

2. Reading is essential to everything in the hobby like researching.

3. A sub-hobby would be like colleting miniatures or photography. Entertaining is not really a hobby in this context. It needs to be something that by itself could be a hobby.

4. Gaming IS the hobby, NOT a sub-hobby.

I would list these as sub-hobbies:

Figure Collecting
Painting Miniatures
Modeling (Under which you can catch many listed items)
Tournaments
Photography
Research/ Scenario Design
Dioramas (modeling?)

The rest and some of the above are a list of what we like about the hobby. It contains aspects of several other hobbies including:

Researching
Modeling/Dioramas
Gaming
Hosting Games/Running Games
Research/ Scenario Design
etc..

Non-game related things I enjoy about the hobby.

Friends
Beer
Entertaining

A lot of these will be in more than one category. Try two different polls as stated above. I am probably over-thinking this. I need to take up a hobby.
