Picts.

One of my favourite puns runs with St Columba's conversion of them: "from sun worshippers to son worshippers."

Celts, Celts, Celts

And – no disrespect – but Persians in my mind are not a barbarian army

+1 Frederick, though the current residents…

Persians are not Barbarians…period!

BTW, this poll could have been done in one round.

Love the Dacians. They were my first ancients army!

Persians were definitely not barbarians in either the Greek or Roman eras.

Some of these choices are redundant. Any non-Greek speaker is a "barbarian." Romans were honorary Greeks.

Yeah, what's with these oddball classifications and redundancies? Celts, Gauls, Britons, Picts, Caledonians are separate? (Keep the last four maybe, but then delete the first.) (Where Picts and Caledonians really that much different?) "Germans" are all lumped together, mainly, except when they're not. Persians are "barbarians?" Me so puzzled.

Did they speak Greek? Latin? No? Then they're barbarians.

Now, the lack of Numidians and Egyptians is definitely puzzling.

Surprisingly, Persians are the definitive barbaroi. Celts are the definitive keltoi.

The ancient Greeks used barbaros to describe overly civilised soft cultures: Persians and Egyptians. Keltoi are just 'others'.

But for what's primarily under disussion in this poll, Celtic is a language group, not a monolithic culture and single army type. Give me the Britons with lots of chariots and a fair amount of light horse over the others anyday ^,^
