Braces don't have buttons. They have button holes.

What!? People still wear those? Surely not!

But of course – how else does one hold up one's trowsers? I have seen some few Confederates using a piece of rope but I have always attributed that to the effects of the blockade.

I only wear them with my Dress Mess or Dress Blues, and now that I am retired that is infrequently.

However if you wear them go for the button holes with the buttons attached to the trousers.
