War And Peace is not only a superb novel, you get much more reading mileage out of it if you're only allowed one choice!

I have not read War and Peace, but believe that novel is on a different (superior) level than anything else listed. Many fine novels listed but Tolstoy is in a class of the great writers of the world. |
