"Do You Have a Plan?" Topic

Well, I have a plan. But it is not likely to survive contact with the new and shiny.

I plan to continue to do whatever I feel like doing in my hobby whenever I feel like it. The plan has contingencies for doing whatever the majority of my gaming group wants to do at any given moment and emergency procedures for keeping SWMBO happy and heavily weighing SOM and DOM critical input as they are way smarter than I am.

I've put a lot of work into the plan, but it is paying off.

Well, I have a plan for castings, rules, scenarios and terrain. That plan's about finished--which would have been much more impressive 20 years ago.

The plan to find opponents and fight games is still more of a work in progress.

I have a plan and it has no deadlines.

I make small plans based on running particular games at a convention.

I used to be a very impulse buyer of the "new and shiny". I looked over the lead pile and realized that my interests gravitated to just a few periods. So about 6 years ago, I have collected in those periods (and even in multiple scales) and planned armies for both sides. This was on my own timeline without regards to current "game du jour". Now that I am retired, I need to cull what I lost interest in and get my butt to painting up those armies I now have all I need for. Never imagined how little time I have for my hobby these days because that "new and shiny" book calls to me for that available time! "I need the 52nd regiment for the OB I am making but the facing colors of the 45th just looks soooo good!" …..

I have generalized ideas.

Recent diagnosis was not good. While I'm not expected to drop dead next week, time has definitely been shortened.

Knowing full well the fate of my 'stuff' will be landfill, I'm moving it on. Easiest method of moving stuff has been Facebook.

When I spot somebody start a new project or are short of figures, I check what I have then ask for an address.All I ask is the recepient make a charity donation, which charity and the amount is left to their discretion.

Kodiak, sorry to hear. Find a wargamer or shop within a two hour radius, and stick them with clean-up. That way you can keep the last castings with a clear conscience, and it's a hedge against accident.

Yeah, I've done it for others. Me? Just down to under 200 cubic feet. My son and heir has been suitably threatened, and a list of persons and shops is paperclipped to the funeral instructions.

My plan is pretty simple:

1) Paint everyday for about an hour.

2) Have one major project on the painting table and complete it before stating another major project.

3) Be open to small projects showing up on the painting table at any time.

4) Have 2 or 3 other projects from the lead pile waiting their turn, prepped and ready to paint.

5) Always be ready for something to jump the line.

Kodiak, sorry to hear. Have often thought about what will happen to my carefully painted figures as well. You and Robert have great ideas. Guess this is what they mean by "graying of the hobby."

I have a plan – buy less new stuff and play all the stuff I have already bought.

It is a great plan, I have been following it from about 5 years after I started gaming.
