This is not an issue I spent a lot of time worrying about. |

Unit – does what it says on the tin. Step away from the name change!!! |

I agree with Winston and the Rat – unit works just fine for me Some people like element but as someone who spent three years of his misspent youth in an organic chemistry lab it just doesn't sound right for use in gaming |

If you are looking for more "military" then troop would be a good and probably only choice on the list. Not that 'unit' isn't military sounding because it is. It's not like we are describing unit order as 'solid' or 'fast'. |

Unit is fine. Though we could differentiate by saying "routing mob" and "pre-routing mob." |

I also think that unit is a fine term. The great thing about it in wargames rules is that it can scale differently. |

Most of the games I play use unit, and the unit is made up of elements. Pretty straightforward and clear to me and no replacement term is necessary. Do we need new terms for "dice", "ruler", and "gamer" too? Those a pretty bleak words as well… 8)= |

Where are all the guys insisting we use currebt military terminology? They haven't been heard from yet. |

Troop/Platoon, Squadron/Company, Battallion etc are all very specific about what they equate to whereas a Unit could be any/all/none of these. It is a catch all to cover whatever it needs to within the game or rules. |

I always use unit, even when rules writers think they have devised a more clever term. |

If you pick another term and it becomes ubiquitous, it will also become bleak. Then "unit" will seem nostalgic. Et factus est in seditio vulgaris. The revolution has become the institution. |
