Needs a "maybe" option. Whether or not a set of rules has tables has no impact on whether I will give it a try. |

One case where we need more options. " It depends" should be an option. Tables are like a hammer. Not all problems are nails. |

Depends on the rules really. |

Yes but I find, (like in the THW rules,) that after a certain core point the tables are special application situations or filled with low percent occurrences and can be ignored until needed. |

A table can be easier than a list of rules to memorize. In the end, it makes no difference in itself: I like ASL and liked Face of battle. I also like Crossfire. |

What Winston and the Joker said. I like to make a choice on polls (there's little point in them if we don't play along) … but 'no opinion' on this as tables really aren't an issue (if the rules are good and the tables are clear then no problem – but if the rules are no good, they are no good and formats won't help or spoil them) … Phil |

Agree that the flow of the game is more important – sometimes tables help, sometimes they don't |

Put me in the "more choices" category as well. I believe that tables can be very useful. However, there are ways around the tabular format to deliver information and results. Ultimately it comes down to the rules mechanics and how they work as to what is or isn't a good rules set. |

And please define "lots." I've played really good rules that used 5-8 tables in a single game. Is that "lots?" |

No problem; I've played Rolemaster. |

Rolemaster was the first thing I thought of, too. Ugh. |
