Including the Middle East gets you professional combined-arms or horse-centric armies that are very different from the shieldwall types of NW Europe. It may have made more sense to restrict the poll to proper Dark Age Infantry Slogs™. |

It's one of my favorite eras due to the "Pig Wars" rules by Tod Kershner. Two of my best friends & fellow gamers & I attended Historicon in the early '90's; we played in his PW game & bought his photo-copied 1st ed. We played many games & got our groups in Houston & Dallas interested. It was certainly not boring & each player got very invested in his Dark Age persona as a Saxon, a Norman or an Irish lord. I've also used these rules for my Vikings vs Elf Girls convention games (using mostly Foundry minis). |
