Really it's a bit more nuanced than 'Yes' or 'No'. It depends on how much investment (time and money), how much I dislike the period and which gang.
In practice we tend to collect pairs (or more) of armies for a period anyway, and specialise in what we like, so the issue doesn't often arise.

As advocate says, it's a bit more nuanced than that. I threw in units back when there was a gang to support--and if you drop back about 50 years, we were all assigned troop builds for an anticipated Waterloo series. Even today, I'd probably put together 100 plastics for Lion Rampant with a game in prospect. But to buy and paint 500 28mm so I could game a period and/or rules I didn't care for? I don't think so.

I have invested in periods my sons are interested in, regardless of whether I had plans to do that period or not.

Other – if my friends were into it, that would create interest for me.

Ancients, 100 Years War, Thirty Years War, and Franco-Prussian War: I really don't need another era.

(I've been invited to game the Boar War. I declined.)

No. I barely have enough time to pursue my own interests.

Within reason

It depends.

As was said by several others -- it depends (voted other).

Sure – not much of a WarMachine fan, but I did up an army because No 3 son is

I don't do fantasy/sci-fi, so nobody would ask. Most historical periods and genres that don't requiew single figure basing would be negotiable.

But I generally like to do both/all sides for a project.

If there's a prospect of semi-regular play of a decent rulesset, I can probably be convinced into almost anything.

My interests are pretty catholic, though, so it's not likely to come up very often.
