Other: Generational difference theories are psycho-babble crap. The empirical evidence is lacking, and for the decade or so that these theories have been applied, they have not demonstrated predictive validity.

A decade from now, I look forward to the lawsuits from people who got "this is what science says you are" shoved down their throat during their adult formative years (say 15-25) and had work policies that affected their livelihood written based on it.

Read the article. Can't figure out what the poll is asking.
Five choices for what?
One for each of the five generations?
Five for your own generation?
Five for the generation you think makes the game worse?
Five for the generation you think makes the game better?
Five that you think have happened over time because of the shift in generation?
Five that you grumble about after yelling "get off my lawn?"

Well, I do have an opinion, and it's that this poll is poorly constructed, confusing, and essentially unanswerable as worded except to say "Other."

Unless one thinks it's ridiculous, ‘cause that works, too.

All of the above = dumb it down.

Also, I'm not sure I totally understand the question. (Maybe dumb that down😇)

I agree with all of the above Sometimes I feel that individuals are grouping here.

If (as I understand the connection) it means gaming with people from different generations, we certainly do this with our grandkids – largely short non-historical games with easy rules – and lots of fun!

Ah, so it's an old farts poll to complain about what's wrong with the new generation of gamers and moan about how we used to roll dice uphill both ways in the snow, and the dice were white with white pips so we had to hunt around and find ‘em before we knew what the results were…

Yeah, forget it. I'm not gonna be one of those people.

I believe this is what the "this is ridiculous" button is for.

The pre poll discussion points to the wrong thread too.

I'm with those have an issue with the poll, and can't understand it enough to provide a choice. Fairly certain this is the first time I have ever answered by choosing the option, "this is ridiculous". Don't even know if I got that accurately or not.

Corrected.

I am having issues with the rationale for this poll. In the workplace, I cannot modify work assignments based on when people were born. Of the guys I game with, one is a GenXer and the rest are 50% Traditionalist and 50% Boomers. I don't modify my games based on when people were born. They all play in the same game at the same time.

Difficult to comment because all those I game with regularly come from the same age group (60-73) and have mostly been wargaming for a similar length of time too.

Can't see what the point of this is either.

"use of toys in gaming"?… I have been playing with "toys", ever since I started playing minis games. They're all toys! LOL!

I incorporate models for my fantasy games, no matter where they come from. I've converted several Dragon "toys" for my fantasy war games: some were factory painted to a decent standard; others had the correct size and sculpting, and with a re-paint, they were darn-near perfect for my needs; these "toys" were a fraction of the cost of a proper gaming figure!

I also play CRT-based wargames with plastic Army Men figures, 45mm-60mm in size; I wrote, and self-published my rules, 1997-2007. I have to admit, these two genres are in a dead tie, for my favorite gaming genre/style/whatever.

I own a full touring motorcycle -- it's a "toy" (sold two smaller motorcycles, which were also "toys"); I ride a sub-compact, 20 HP tractor, with a front end loader on it -- it, too, is a "toy", and I LOVE using it, because it is sooo much fun!

Most of my possessions are "toys." LOL! Cheers!

"simpler rules that are less historical"

Simpler rules do not always equate to less historical. You can have less complicated rules and still, have historical games or period-correct games. What is the point of doing historical games without it being historical?

"shorter games"

My historical scenarios are as long as they need to be. We just played a game today that took about five hours with seven players and only one person left early. It was a very enjoyable period correct game. If we don't finish it that day, I can leave it to resume later.

"more skirmish gaming"

I am getting a little tired of skirmish gaming. I don't plan to give it up. But we play so much of it and they all are beginning to blend together where the rules are pretty much the same and are historical in name only. Give me battalions and regiments, Napoleonics, ACW, or AWI. I want to play actual battles/period-correct games.
