The commander is just one more thing to paint, so I generally leave the hatches closed and the commander figure in the junk drawer.

I only use the commander in the battalion command tank.

Great minds think alike – I also use the commander figure but only in company/battalion command tanks

In FoW, he's the platoon commander. Or the Company commander and 2ic. It's not that much extra work.
Most manufacturers include him in the mix of parts, so why not? Consider him "stowage".

I would love to include the odd commander, but I don't have any ….

I'm with Dagwood, although Peter Pig does have optional 15mm tank commanders and drivers, we over in here in the colonies are having to wait longer and pay more. I with some of the American distributors ould do so….hint hint

I chose other. The tanks I bought from Old Glory the hatch or commander have a small post at the bottom that fits into a hole in the turret. Since I do skirmish in 15mm there aren't very many vehicles, so I don't glue them so I can switch from open to closed hatches.

But if you had a Japanese teenage girl Commander there would be no reason to have a buttoned up tank.
