I stand by Arthur St. Clair.

I have never like the term "most underrated". It is an oxymoron as far as I am concerned. How can he be "underrated" if you have heard of him? Particularly if he has a good reputation?
So I voted for Cesar Rodney, whose sole claim to fame is that he rode in the rain to sign and died soon after. I am sure his biographer would/could lecture me on his many virtues, but that is all I know. And all I care to know.

Oh, he died 8 years later. That shows you how much I really know. grin

You can be underrated by having a reputation that is below your just desserts. So you are absolutely fantastic, saved the revolution, saved NO British children and nobody really cares.

Benjamin Franklin, who is regarded by many as one of the most brilliant people to ever live, is not underrated. He seems to be rated about right.

I agree. Ben Franklin was such a force. Really the first international star. HR Brands The First American is a great read.

I think that Ben Franklin did a lot but I don't think he is under-rated; the Adams lads (in my case, John) would get my vote

Sam Adams was actually a terrible brewer, and failed at it twice. Apparently his beer was awful.

But he was an amazing firebrand who whipped up quite a lot of froth amongst Bostonians, and between him and Hancock all but started the whole Revolution to begin with. Definitely underrated.

Ben Franklin is in no way underrated.

You know more about him than me…

Apparently his [Sam Adams] beer was awful.

But I've heard that Sam Adams beers are pretty good. grin

Ben Franklin and John Adams underrated? Good lord they get more credit and exposure than any of the founding fathers.David McCullough's book and the HBO series on John Adams, underrated? I don't think so.

Ben Franklin has one documentary or another playing on a loop on the History Channels. The book by Walter Isaacson. He was and still is a rock star. They should not have even been on the list.

By the way the picture on the Sam Adams bottles is not Sam Adams, it is Paul Revere. Sam Adams doesn't have the looks.
